America’s Red Guard Was Born in a Denver Park

At La-Alma Lincoln Park in Denver, an anti-ICE Student Protest Turned Violent

I was at La Alma-Lincoln Park on Friday when Colorado emptied classrooms so teenagers could be marched into politics. Organizers called it a “student-led” ICE Out Walkout.

Students from 180 to more than 200 high schools left class around noon. In Denver, they filled the park. Democratic Socialist Melat Kiros — the DSA-backed candidate who campaigns to abolish ICE — was the VIP. Adults from the Democrat Party, the DSA, Denver Communists, and allied groups worked the crowd. Journalists and bystanders milled about peacefully. Students I spoke with were mostly pleasant, good-hearted kids. They were also clueless. They moved like a school of fish. Several told me their teachers and administrators “fully supported” the walkout. That is not civic education. That is adults using and manipulating other people’s children for their divisive, destructive and dangerous political agenda.

 

The only counter-protester I saw walked through with a sign that read “I ♥ ICE.” Some believe he was a DSA plant sent to provoke a mob of teenagers. It worked.

They chased him, assaulted him, and tore the sign to pieces. Local reporting confirms the surge, the “Nazi scum” chant, the destroyed sign, and a later return in which students threw bottles and one struck him in the head with a metal water bottle. Denver police reported five assaults and three hospitalizations. A woman had her hair pulled and was punched in the face. The rally was unpermitted and had no safety plan. DPS security and Denver police stood by.

That was only the opening. Adult provocateurs targeted journalists asking students why they were there — surrounding them, yelling, shoving megaphones in their faces and asking loudly, “Why are you photographing children?” One adult carried a blood-soaked Israeli flag and called civilian journalists Nazis to pull the crowd. Earlier, students were photographed dancing on that same stained flag. On multiple occasions, the children, whipped up by those adults, left the park en masse, took the streets, and physically attacked mostly peaceful journalists being hounded and maliciously labeled fascists and Nazis. Tables were lined with bags of apples and oranges and coolers of ice-hard water bottles. Those were not snacks. They were ammunition.

Independent reporters paid the price. My husband, Wayne Laugesen, host of the Wayne’s Word Podcast (@WaynesWordPod on X), was assaulted with ice-water bombs as adults pointed him out.

Our adult son, George (@JorgesHotTakis on X) was beaten about the head while in a fetal position on the ground and had his GoPro stolen. Organizers later begged the teens back from the street where they were pummeling reporters. The mob of children was driven to violence by DSA and Democrat shock troops.

Colorado already has a name for that. Under C.R.S. 18-6-701, any person who induces, aids, or encourages a child under 18 to violate the law commits “contributing to the delinquency of a minor.” If the underlying offense is a felony victims’ rights crime — assault among them — it is first-degree contributing, a class 4 felony. Other violations are second-degree, a class 1 misdemeanor. If the adult is a school-district employee or licensed educator, that conviction must be reported to the Colorado Department of Education. The statute does not require charging the child first. Encouraging the crime is the crime. Friday’s adults did not merely “stand in solidarity.” They supplied the targets, the labels, and the fruit.

This is why the Red Guard comparison is not a flourish. Mao Zedong’s Red Guards were students and other youth unleashed in China’s Cultural Revolution, beginning in 1966, to smash “class enemies.” Party adults pointed; teenagers did the work. They dragged teachers and journalists through the streets, staged struggle sessions, destroyed churches and temples, and treated dissent as treason. Traitors were subject to violent public ridicule and executions meted out by children. Even parents were subjected to torture and murder by their own radicalized children. The horror was not that every child was a monster. It was that ordinary students, flattered as history’s vanguard, became a weapon. Adult Communist ideologues taught the children whom to hate and handed them a crowd. What I saw at La Alma-Lincoln Park was that manipulative method in action: school time converted to political drill, sacred symbols desecrated, a designated enemy chased, and cameras treated as enemy tools.

The atheistic ideology matches the method. The Democratic Socialists of America inherit a materialist tradition that treats faith as a rival power center. Their religious caucus does not defend the historic Christian church; it organizes to “defeat Christian nationalism” and recast Jesus as a mascot for state power. Conservative Christians — Catholic and Protestant — hold the opposite: the soul is not the state’s property, the family is not a political cell, private property is stewardship, and the church answers to God, not a party. Where we see a person made in the image of God, they see a class instrument. Where we see Israel’s flag as a people’s emblem, they treat it as a prop to be stained and danced on.

We document the global war on faith — ransom camps and entire villages slaughtered in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, imprisoned pastors worldwide, churches across the West burned, believers told to refuse Jesus or die. The pattern is the same whether the boot is jihadist, communist, or fashionable Western radicalism: first you desecrate the sacred, then you train the young to hunt the witness. Friday in Denver was the domestic rehearsal.

Colorado’s schools cannot get most children to grade level — 45 percent proficient in reading, 36 percent in math on recent state tests — yet they had time for a political rally that compared ICE to the Gestapo and the KKK. A system that fails at reading still finds the hours to manufacture a street militia. Signs, chants, and a candidate who calls ICE a “rogue agency” kidnapping neighbors into “concentration camps” did not appear from nowhere. They were supplied.

Call it what it was: an intentional riot dressed up as youth activism. The children are pawns. The game masters are adult DSA shock troops and Democrat operatives who lose control the moment the mob is useful, then plead for calm when cameras catch the blood. America’s Red Guard is born — not in a distant history book, but on a Friday afternoon in a Denver park while school was in session.

Thursday, October 1 is federal “count day “ for school money. Sure, they average attendance over 5 days, but October 1 is the official day recognizing the annual census. Keep them home October 1. Make it count for posterity. Close Colorado schools on October 1.

Stop funding a system that cannot teach them to read but can teach them to chase a journalist into the street. The war on faith is not only overseas. It is in the park, during school hours, with adults handing out the fruit — and, under Colorado law, that is not just politics. It may be a crime.
