WASHINGTON, D.C.— Last week’s bilateral summit between President Donald Trump and Chinese Communist dictator Xi Jinping involved lavish displays of hospitality, a series of meetings between the leaders and their senior subordinates and professions of friendship and mutual admiration. Less clear is what was discussed out of the public eye and to what effect.

In the run-up to that meeting, the Committee on the Present Danger: China conducted two-hours of presentations by members and allies streamed by Steve Bannon’s War Room Pandemic program on Real America’s Voice network (which was tapped to provide pool video coverage of the event when the networks heretofore responsible for that service declined to do so). The special webinar’s theme was “accountability, not accommodation.”

Today’s webinar will examine whether either of those terms accurately characterized what actually happened and more broadly what was accomplished. Views from the United States and Taiwan will be featured, as will the proposition that the Chinese General Secretary may have little of substance to show for his visit but received a powerful boost in his stature as an equal of the President of the United States with implications for his regime, both at home and abroad.
