Secure Freedom Minute: Don’t Let Taiwan be the Next Hong Kong

The Chinese Communist Party has redoubled its efforts to punish a leader of the once-formidable democracy movement in Hong Kong. Under China’s oppressive national security law, Joshua Wong faces a possibly quite protracted  extension of his incarceration four years ago.  

The message will not be lost on Hong Kongers who, prior to the CCP’s crackdown on dissent and now complete control over the former British colony, turned out by the millions to express their commitment to freedom. Today, they live the bleak lives of people enslaved in every other Chinese city. 

The intensifying repression in Hong Kong also underscores for the people of Taiwan the fate that lies in store for them if the CCP succeeds in taking their island, either by force or as a result of its surrender by the kow-towing Kuomintang Party. That must not be permitted to occur.
