Secure Freedom Minute: A More Resilient Military Will “Harden” America, Too

In June 2015, Donald Trump was shocked to learn of the American electric grid’s vulnerability to attack. He was incredulous that little had been done to correct the problem and promised that he would do so as president.
Yesterday, his Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, announced an initiative that may do more than any other to that end. The Pentagon is requiring its major U.S. installations be able to operate independently from civilian electric and other infrastructures for ninety days.
Fulfilling that tasking will be daunting. But it is vital, especially given the presence here of Chinese soldiers, jihadists and other enemies within certain to try to render our military incapable of projecting power.
Just trying to mitigate that danger, however, should also catalyze the long-overdue “hardening” of our civilian infrastructure as Mr. Trump promised eleven years ago.
